Phoenix, Ariz. (March 7, 2007)PGA TOUR professional Billy Mayfair, Arizona Republic golf writer John Davis and the Gallery Golf Club in Marana were honored March 6 by the Southwest Golf Media Association (SWGMA) at Moon Valley Country Club in Phoenix.

The Arizona Golf Association handed out seven awards, while the Southwest Golf Media Association awarded three at the annual Awards Dinner. Jim Frazier, former executive director of the Thunderbirds, was master of ceremonies, while golf instructor and golf fitness trainer Tyler Kirkendoll was the guest speaker. Cori Brett, outgoing president of SWGMA, presented the awards.

Mayfair won the Bob Goldwater, Sr. Ambassador of Golf Award presented to someone from Arizona, or with significant Arizona ties, who represents the game, on and off the course, and embodies its tradition and values. Dr. Curtis Maynard, a longtime friend of Mayfair, accepted the award on his behalf.

Davis, who lives in Phoenix, won the Golf Media Award, presented to a writer, broadcaster, photographer, artist or other individual for outstanding contributions in the field of golf media. Davis, a native of Michigan, has covered golf for the Arizona Republic since 1999. He's covered sports in Maricopa County and his native Michigan for more than 30 years, is a founding board member of SWGMA and also a member of the Golf Writers Association of America (GWAA).

The Gallery Golf Club was named Club of the Year, presented to an Arizona Golf Association club for upholding the spirit and traditions of golf through energetic support, and consistent dedication to the game." Ed Francese, president of EF Golf and owners representative at The Gallery Golf Club, accepted for John MacMillan, owner of the club.
