John Daly Receives FIRST 2007 FBR OPEN EXEMPTION

PHOENIX, Arizona – 2007 FBR Open Tournament Chairman Pat McGinley announced today that PGA TOUR veteran and FBR Open crowd favorite John Daly will receive the first sponsor’s exemption for the 2007 FBR Open.  McGinley and the tournament host Thunderbirds will give out a total of five sponsor’s exemptions for the FBR Open, scheduled to be played at the TPC Scottsdale, January 29th – February 4th.

“John Daly is a crowd favorite wherever he plays on the PGA TOUR but especially here at the FBR Open,” said McGinley. “Plus, he’s played in every FBR/Phoenix Open tournament since 1998 and in 13 overall tournaments. We look forward to having him back in the Valley this February.”

John Daly is a five-time winner on the PGA TOUR including two Major Championships – the 1991 PGA Championship and the 1995 British Open. He’s played in 13 FBR/Phoenix Open tournaments and has career earnings in Phoenix of $407,726. His best finish in Phoenix was a tie for 4th in 2002, when he earned $176,000 and finished two-strokes behind tournament champion Chris DiMarco.

In 2006, Daly played in 21 events, made 8 cuts and earned $192,134. He finished 193rd on the PGA TOUR money list and is currently ranked 145th in the Official World Golf Rankings. At the 2006 FBR Open, Daly was forced to withdraw after nine holes into his second round due to illness.

Daly will enter the 2007 PGA TOUR season on a Minor Medical Extension (injured forefinger on right hand). This means players placing higher than him in 26 All-Exempt TOUR Priority Rankings (for example the Top 125 from the 2006 Official Money List, those granted Major Medical Extensions, the leading money winner from the 2006 Nationwide Tour and the Top 30 and ties from the 2006 PGA TOUR Q-School) all have the ability to enter a tournament before he does.  With the quality field the 2007 FBR Open is expected to attract, it is highly unlikely Daly will make it into the tournament field on his own.

The 2007 FBR Open will take place Jan. 29 – Feb. 4 at the TPC Scottsdale.  This year will mark the 72nd playing of the Open, making it one of the five oldest events on the PGA TOUR.  With more than 500,000 spectators each year, the FBR Open is the most attended tournament on the PGA TOUR. For information about the 2007 FBR Open, visit www.fbropen.com.
